So up until now I have never seen Star Wars. Didn't know what it was about and just assumed I wasn't going to like it. Prior to watching the movies this is what light sabers were in my mind:
"They're just glow sticks", I told my boyfriend, who at this stage was more shocked than learning that I had never seen it. (Keeping in mind that he is a huge Star Wars fan) Seeing as I thought it was a glow stick...this is how I imagined the moment when Darth Vader reveals to Luke Skywallker that he is his father...
You can imagine the look on Jason's face now...
Long before he forced me to watch Star Wars, we were having a fun conversation about how we would discipline our kids. Jason mentions that he wishes to buy light sabres of different sizes to discipline them if they misbehaved or didn't get a 100% in an exam. Why different sizes..
and of course who could forget the red light saber..
At the time this was hilarious and ridiculous. My children will end up fearing Star Wars and have crazy father. But I did not realise the seriousness of the light saber until I finally watched Star Wars. My poor...dead...children.
There were things I also found disappointing; like princess Leia in her gold bikini. Thanks to Friends(the tv show) even I know about her gold bikini. But how it played out in the movie was not how I imagined. For example I thought she would wear that bikini for a love interest or so(maybe it's just the romantic in me). Instead she was forced to wear it for the likes of him...
Of course this is because she became a slave..BUT STILL! It is so utterly unglamorous.
And the final thing that I found strange(Keeping in mind I watched it chronologically from 1-3 then 4-6) was Yoda's voice in 4 - 6. Why on earth does he sound like cookie monster?!
Nevertheless Star Wars was hard to fault. A little predictable but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
So I leave this post with a picture I sketched during the week...
